Football at VT will never generate the internal revenue to compete
With the SECs and Clemsons of the world. Gutting the rest of the sports is not going to change that. VT's non-rev sports add a lot to the university including the prestige of being good at much more than football. Stanford dominates the Directors Cup without being particularly great at football. What they do is have a well-balanced sports program for both genders and produce world class athletes in all of them. I'd much rather be Stanford than some football factory. I'd much rather be uva than some football factory. They just created a women's swim national champ out of nothing.
It won't be long until somebody figures out a better minor league football system, and college football won't be the same, and that's a good thing.
